CampQuest Yucatan – C-Quest currently operates camps in the state of Yucatan, Mexico focusing on the areas within an hour’s drive from the capital city, Merida. Our ministry base is located in Progreso, which is on the Gulf coast of the peninsula approximately 30 minutes north of Merida. Here, we host training sessions for participating churches and run our operations.
Gary and Joanne Edwards are former teachers who started the ministry of C-Quest in 2011. Their love for kids is what God used to entice them into full-time missions work. After leaving teaching in 2002, Gary worked as Director of Children’s Ministries and Overseas Development for another mission organization. They began leading family teams to Mexico so that kids could truly understand what “missions” is all about. It was on these many trips to Mexico that God planted and grew the seed that eventually became C-Quest. With a strong desire to assist churches in growing by sharing God’s truth with kids, they are excited to be a part of the worldwide CCI family. Their teaching careers taught Gary and Joanne the importance of “training up a child in the way they should go” for it is the children of today that become the leaders of tomorrow.
Although CampQuest is a relatively new aspect of C-Quest’s ministry in the Yucatan, it is quickly gaining support from local churches throughout the region. News about the CampQuest program has spread as far as Cancun and Chetumal (4-6 hours away) on the east coast, and pastors there are requesting to be trained and equipped to run camps. CCI’s provision of camps-in-a-box (trailers completely equipped with everything required to operate a 2-5 day camp) has been an incredible motivating force for churches. Combined with the training that churches receive, as a prerequisite for running the camps, word is spreading and camp participation is growing. Without access to these unique tools for ministry, it would be much more difficult to attract kids to camps. Our dream is to have trailers situated in satellite locations across the entire Yucatan peninsula so that all churches can access the equipment when they need it.
We anticipate much growth in the CampQuest program over the coming months. We would appreciate having people pray that pastors would catch the CCI vision and follow the program that has been developed so that their churches will grow. We long to see kids come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. We want the camps to serve as catalysts for church growth, not simply act as periodic entertainment for kids. Please pray that God will provide the national staff that is required to expand the program across the peninsula.
